Matthew 11:29- Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

I don’t know who said it but it makes a lot of sense: “Those who will not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” I think this is true about our personal histories as well. Too often we find ourselves repeating the same destructive patterns in our lives, leaving us empty and exhausted, wondering why we have no sense of progress. Perhaps it’s because we so seldom take the time, either alone or with others, to really reflect on what God is doing in us and our world. We can sit in church week after week, read the bible, hear the sermons, but if there is no time to really learn what those things mean for us at this time, in this context, they tend to roll off us like the proverbial water off the duck’s back. We are bombarded with information in this age. How do we let what God is trying to teach us get through the din and sink in? In our church we have been pushing our Grow Groups as one way to reflect with others and learn from Jesus. Why not try one? If not this summer, what about this fall? If not with us, maybe with another church. The point is to have a place to reflect and discuss what God is doing with you now. Surprisingly, this is one way you may “find rest for your souls.” Have a happy 4th!
