1 Peter 2:11- Live an exemplary life among those around
you so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they’ll be won over
to God’s side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives. (The
Message Bible)
It’s as simple as the old axiom, “actions speak louder
than words.” Back in the 70s there was a popular song entitled Cats in the Cradle. Through the four
verses a man learns to his pain that his son had picked up the father’s dominant
characteristic, being so absorbed with work that he had no time for
relationships. If you don’t know the song then Google it. It will be worth your
while. The truth is we are all influencing those around us all the time. You can
make or break as person’s day by the way you treat them or just by your very
attitude. You will live an exemplary
life. Someone will be impacted by what you do this week and draw conclusions
about what you value. Do you want to be an influence for good? Do you want to be
an influence for God? The two should go hand in hand. We are working hard at
building a church that values people over property or programs. We can preach it
from the pulpit but what will really matter is if we can live it in the pews.
How are you viewed by those around you? “And as I hung up the phone it occurred
to me, he’d grown up just like me. My boy was just like me.”
