Acts 4:34- Those who owned fields or houses sold them and brought the price of the sale to the apostles and made an offering of it. The apostles then distributed it according to each person’s need. (The Message Bible)
There is a saying, “put your money where your mouth is.” I’ve been told that if you really want to know what is important to a person all you have to do is look at their date book and their check book. Where we put our time and money is where we give our lives. What kind of an impact must the message of Jesus had on these early Christians that they would sell their property and trust the apostles to use it for the good of God and others? We often use money to get what we want in our society. Money buys us influence. But here people made major transactions and gave control away as an act of faith in the risen Jesus. What might Christians do in the name of Christ if this was the attitude today? How does this verse challenge you?
