2 Corinthians 8:10 So here’s what I think: The best thing you can do right now is to finish what you started last year and not let those good intentions grow stale. (The Message Bible)

There is an old saying- not from the bible- that the pathway to hell is paved with good intentions. The idea being that not only is it easy for us to think about doing noble things and then never do them but that these thoughts can actually be a temptation because we regard them as the end in themselves and are satisfied with never actually living them out. I’m sure many people confuse complaining about something with actually doing something about the situation. Paul is afraid that this is what is happening with his friends in Corinth. Some time ago they had started a collection for the poor in Jerusalem but it had kind of lost steam and fizzled out. So he gives them the advice in the verse above. Here it is, the 4th of July. It’s been 6 month since New Year but it feels like the blink of an eye. What has become of the good intentions you had for 2012? If we live in the presence of God we are renewed day by day and our life actually changes. Good intentions become acts of service. What spiritual discipline, what opening of the heart, what change of mind that you thought about needs a next step this week?
