Ephesians 1:3 How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. (The Message Bible)
Last Friday ABC News’ person of the week was Carly Rae Jepsen. Over the past few months she and her hit song have been popping into my life regularly. At a wedding reception a few weeks ago the DJ played a song which caused the younger women to shriek and run to the dance floor. At the appropriate point of the song, as part of their dance, they held out their cell phones and sang, “Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but here’s my number, so call me maybe.” If you’ve never heard this song you must be living under a rock. On a train trip into Philadelphia I saw the cover of the free newspaper proclaiming that Call Me Maybe had been voted song of the summer. I actually think it is a great song for the way it captures the thrill and joy of the potential of making a meaningful connection. Seems like we all want this, like we were made to reach across the gap in life and touch the other. I don’t think Paul was dancing and holding out his cell phone when he wrote the above verse but I sense the same enthusiasm. That desire to connect with the guy or girl across the way may be a shadow of the grand desire built into us to connect with the maker of it all. Paul seems pretty excited about it here. With whom are you connecting this summer? In Jesus God is giving out his number. Call him maybe!
