Colossians 1:28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.
A dear woman at our church brought me a bag of peaches on Sunday. I hadn’t had a peach all summer and, oh my goodness, the one I ate this morning was delicious. Sometimes fruit can get to you too soon and be hard and dry. Sometimes you get to it too late and it can be squishy and runny. But when you get it at the point that it is just ripe it can be a perfect experience. Paul told the Colossians that he did what he did “so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.” Some translations say “perfect” in Christ. I’ve read that the word (telos) was used to describe fruits and vegetables that were exactly at the right point of ripeness. I’ve had the joy of watching my children grow into mature adults; not that they never make mistakes but they have become responsible for themselves and others, sometimes me! I think that’s one reason why those of us that cling to the faith do so- because we see how it makes people the wonderful creatures God always intended, fully developed, complete, sweet and ripe. Will that describe you this week? Can you help someone else get there?
