Hebrews 12:1- Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. (The Message Bible)

One of my favorite sayings does not come from the bible. It is, I think, an ancient Chinese proverb that goes, “the journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.” We get a lot of input from a lot of places but eventually we all must decide what is really important and act on it. That’s what the writer was getting at in the verse above. We have the scriptures. We have the people in our past and present that inspire our faith. What we often need is just the will to take the first step or the next step that turns inspiration into participation. Most of the time, life is not rocket science. It is just a matter of prioritizing our time and resources for what is most important, what truly builds up, what connects with God. What step will you take this week?
