2 Corinthians 5:11-He gives you something you can then give away, which grows into full-formed lives, robust in God, wealthy in every way, so that you can be generous in every way, producing with us great praise to God. (The Message Bible)
Most of us live our lives with limited funds, some more than others. We may dream of winning the lottery and being able to buy whatever we want whenever we want but I doubt that is a reality for anyone reading this. Despite our fantasies, having to make choices with our money is a blessing because it forces us to face what we truly value, what we most wish to see accomplished through our spending. Paul has been encouraging the folks in Corinth to give to a fund to help the poor in Jerusalem. He tells them that what they give and the way they give it will be “producing with us great praise to God.” People try to get all sorts of things with their money- pleasure, security, status, influence. Paul says here to give in such a way that it doesn’t reflect back on ourselves but puts the focus on God. What will you give this week? To whom will it give praise?
