Matthew 5:15- Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
We live in a loud world for the most part; TV noise, traffic noise, car radios, multiple voices in conversation. One of the things that struck me as I thought about this verse this time around was how quiet light is. I’m not as much of a morning person as I once was but I still take our dog out for his walk in the early hours often before the sounds of the day have revved up in our neighborhood. In the winter this is usually before the sun has risen also. How silently the light edges above the tree line in the east and spreads across the landscape until the colors and features of the day become quietly clear. I think it is important to talk about our faith, particularly in this age where the Christian story and message is no longer the common knowledge it once was. Still there is no sense in trying to out shout the noise around us. Maybe with more light fewer words of explanation would be needed. How can you raise the light of God to a higher lampstand this week?
