Matthew 6:25-26 “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. (The Message Bible)
When I was a kid I worried about various things. I worried about getting a hit in my Little League game. I worried about learning the multiplication tables. I worried about the cute little girl in the third row thinking I was a jerk. However I never worried about food being on the table at mealtime or having clothes to wear for whatever occasion. Not only didn’t I worry about these things, I hardly thought about them at all. My parents took care of this stuff. There was always food in the refrigerator and clothes in the closet. For many years I never considered how they got there. Certainly as a child I did not appreciate what it took for my parents to make this happen and it wasn’t until I grew up that I truly became grateful for their provision. Jesus is saying that God provides in the same way for his children. I know there are places in the world where people do not have enough to eat or wear. I’m pretty sure that has to do with us as humans keeping what God has provided from those who need it. Still most of us experience daily that God gives us what we need for our bodies and our spirits. After all, “there is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body.” Where do you see God providing for you this week? How are you responding to God’s provision?
