Genesis 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
I’m still waiting to see an Apple Watch. It’s more mild curiosity than intrigue because nothing amazes me when it comes to technology anymore. That global communication happens instantaneously by bouncing signals off satellites in outer space is not amazing anymore. What does continue to amaze me is that I and most average citizens of western culture, maybe the world, have access to this technology. We have a young woman in our church living in Japan and I know I could call her and talk halfway around the world. Even people who come to use our food pantry at the church often have this technology at their disposal. On this Memorial Day I am struck again by the courage and devotion of so many on my behalf. They are worthy of admiration. But I am also struck that they were born average human beings and that their courage and dignity are the potential for all of us because we are created in the image of God. That we don’t live up to that potential is one reason we need Christ, but that there is the grand and holy in each of us worthy of redemption is a staggering reality. As you remember and honor the best of humanity this weekend connect with the goodness built into your own being and loved through death by God himself. This week, how might God use the amazing in you?
