Psalm 121:1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?
Our congregation celebrated its 120th anniversary this Sunday thus we are entering our 121st year. We read the 121st Psalm as part of the service. I didn’t realize the connection until I was ready to read it in the service. Kind of neat though. 120 years is a long time. So is (fill in your age). I read an article lately that brought out the point that this is really the first time in the history of the church that it contains 5 generations of active members. We have elementary school kids in our congregation and folks in their nineties. Both add so much to our life together. Both have unique and significant challenges contained in their stage of life. Where does my help come from? No one gets through this life on their own. Whether you’ve been around 120 years, 90 years, or 9 years you have to deal with the next year with all its confusion and choices and possible contention. Where does your help come from? Can we really lift up our eyes and connect with something greater, connect with God, and receive help? That has been the claim of Christianity and its Hebrew foundations for millennia. This week, where will your help come from?
