1 Kings 18:3 Ahab had summoned Obadiah, his palace administrator. (Obadiah was a devout believer in the Lord)
Caught between a rock and a hard place! There is no reason to believe that Obadiah was not a personal friend/colleague of Ahab. He had risen to the rank of palace administrator. They must have gotten along at one time or on some level. We find out that Obadiah was hiding prophets of Israel’s God from the Queen who was executing them. He probably didn’t chat with Ahab about that! How he dealt with his inner turmoil we will never know. All we have is a brief passage about one episode in his life. I hope you feel torn in the present political climate. I do. If you don’t it may mean that you are simply drinking the Kool-Aid of folks who want to manipulate you for their own appropriation of power. So beware. But eventually we all must choose. Hopefully we choose with hearts directed to the service of God and for the good of all. Hopefully we choose out of love and not spite or vengeance. But we must choose. Will the prophets be hidden and fed? If so, Obadiah had to do it. This week, is God calling you to choose in a particular way?
