1 John 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
I spent much of the weekend in New York City. It gives a different perspective to the idea of “world.” From the top of the Empire State Building you see the landscape spread out in all directions including views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and all they represent. It is hard to imagine how many millions of people your eyes are taking in across the miles. Listening to the tourists right around you, you hear a myriad of languages from all over the globe. The economic breadth stretches from limousines to the homeless almost on every block. Could something done by God through one person two thousand years ago have meaning for all the cultures and individuals through all the years? That would be miraculous, indeed! This week, where do you and Jesus and the “whole world” come together?
