1 John 4:9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
In the gospel of John 10:10 Jesus teaches, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” or, as I first learned it, rather than “to the full,” “abundantly.” Yes, Jesus came and died to forgive our sins, but forgiveness is a means and not the end. In the framework of the Bible, sin leads to death, thus forgiveness leads to life. The above verse restates this saying that the purpose of Jesus was/is to bring life- to give us what was always intended for humans right from the very beginning- life. There is a show stopping song in the musical Company titled “Being Alive.” It begins, “Somebody hold me too close, somebody hurt me too deep, somebody sit in my chair and ruin my sleep and make me aware of being alive.” In the spring we become aware of life bursting all around us, and it is glorious. The promise of Christianity has always been that faith in Jesus is the way to life, real life, abundant life. With all the ups and downs of faith, the promise of Jesus is life. How will you live this week?
