1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
Blended families are fairly common in our world today. We probably all know marriages where at least one of the partners came with children already attached. Building a new life with just two people is often challenging and then adding a third or a fourth can add to the complications, especially if that third or fourth is busy with the tasks of growing up and forming their identity and all that entails. These marriages just won’t work if the spouses aren’t committed to loving the children as much as they are to loving each other. The old saying, “love me, love my dog” is even more true for children. These unions will never be just about the two adults. The above verse reminds us that our faith and the way we live it out is never solely, simply between me and God. Our love for God makes us part of a blended family where the father brings his kids into the relationship with him. If we love God we will need to learn to love God’s children. That’s just the way it works. This week, how will you love the children God has brought into your life with him?
