1 John 5:11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Often times at funerals there is an attempt to summarize the message of the deceased’s life through stories of particular things they did or sayings they expressed. Each life bears witness to a version of truth. Each gives a testimony concerning what is important. Most people are not intentional about all this. They simply live their lives reflecting the ideas or emotions that move them, to which they, maybe unknowingly, have become committed. But those commitments speak and, if you are thinking of your mother this Mother’s Day, often speak loudest to those closest to us. In 1 John the writer tries to sum up his basic commitment in the above verse. He came to trust that humanity had been given a quality and open-ended duration of life through Jesus. Does your life have a testimony? I guaranty you that it does. Someone is watching and listening. This week, what will be your testimony?
