Psalm 139:1, 2 O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.
Have you ever played hide and seek with a very young child? They often will not hide very well, leaving parts of their bodies exposed from behind a chair or tree or whatever. They may even simply cover their eyes believing that if they don’t see you then you can’t see them. They out grow this pretty fast. We can act the same way towards God though, can’t we? In the creation story from Genesis, Adam and Eve’s first instinct when they have done wrong is to hide from God. How did that work out for them? The Psalmist here reminds us that God knows us intimately- the good, the bad, and the ugly/beautiful. Psalm 139 celebrates this intimacy. Shouldn’t we? Is there something in your life you think you are hiding from God? This week, bring it out into God’s love and care. God knows it anyway.
