Psalm 24:7 Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.
Paul Simon wrote a song that says, “I’ve built walls; A fortress deep and mighty. That none may penetrate.” The song was called “I am a rock” and was on the Sound of Silence album in 1966. I doubt that he was thinking of the above verse but certainly he was referencing the way ancient cities were built, with walls for protection. To gain entry either the gates must be raised up or the walls torn down. The Psalm above may have been referring to the coming of the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem after David made it his capital. Could it be that God wishes to come to the walled city that we, like the Paul Simon song, have created of our lives? This week, what walls have you built for protection in your life; how can you raise the gates and lift the doors that God may come in?
