John 20:30, 31 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

This looks like it may have been the end of John’s gospel in some of the versions that circulated in the first and second century. There is a 21st chapter that we will look at next week. But if the above was the end it sums things up well. We don’t know everything that Jesus said and did. We are not given exhaustive knowledge in most things we deal with daily, but we are given enough to know how to do what we need to do. These verses make the same claim. We don’t know everything but we told enough to trust the message that “Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.” But even that is not the end but the open door that leads to “life in his name.” Faith is not simply intellectual assent to certain propositions. Faith is the force that empowers life, that courses through your veins and muscles and heart, as well as your brain. Jesus did what he did so that we might live connected to God as was always intended. How does what you know about Jesus give you life?
