Philippians 2:6 Jesus had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. (The Message Bible)
What’s your status? You may think of your Facebook status, or your marital status, or your position in or outside of the status quo. The meaning comes from the Latin for stand. Very shortly after his execution, and possibly before, Jesus’ followers became convinced that he held a unique status with or standing before the creator of the world. They knew he referred to that creator as Father but what did that indicate? And then, particularly at the end, he seemed more like his followers, bleeding and broken, than he did divine. And, of course, he died. The writers of the bible never explained how it all fit together. Only that he had this status and he set it aside for humanity, for us, for you. His status in Jerusalem changed radically from Palm Sunday to Good Friday but not his status with his Father. What is your status with him?
