John 1:14 The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish. (The Message Bible)This is what Peterson does in the Message Bible with John 1:14. Last week was Father’s Day and it is charming and sometimes alarming to see the way children resemble their parents. Most parents have that intriguing moment when they are reprimanding their kids and they say one of those expressions that their parents always used to say to them, often an expression they swore in their youth they would never use when they became parents. Maybe it is DNA. Maybe it is close contact over years. However it happens, children reflect their parents. Christianity arose because a group of people in the early first century A.D. became convinced that Jesus resembled his father and that his father was The Father. Pretty amazing stuff. To see Jesus is to see his Father. Like father, like son. What do you see of God in Jesus?
