Mark 12:28 One of the religion scholars came up. Hearing the lively exchanges of question and answer and seeing how sharp Jesus was in his answers, he put in his question: “Which is most important of all the commandments?” (The Message Bible)
I’ve always loved this verse. If you had to put your view of life into one sentence, what would you say? This question about the most important commandment was asked of many first century teachers. Life asks something like that of each of us. You won’t get the chance to do everything you want or travel every road around you. Which should you choose? Which would be best? Jesus drew on even older wisdom from the Old Testament: love God with everything and love those around you. You answer the question each day by the way you live and the choices you make. For you, which is the most important commandment. Today, what is the most important thing for you to do?
