Luke 2:41Every year Jesus’ parents traveled to Jerusalem for the Feast of Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up as they always did for the Feast. (The Message Bible)

Christmas is over and New Year’s Day is on the horizon. In our home we have traditions for meals on both these days that never vary. I bet many families are similar. We enjoy having these meals set. We know what to buy at the grocery for them, how to cook them, and look forward to eating them. They remind us of good times gone by. Jesus and his family had their traditions too. The passage doesn’t mention food but we know that special meals accompanied the Passover. Things will go somewhat off course as Jesus ends up staying behind when they leave Jerusalem, but the point at the start is that they had positive patterns in their family that helped Jesus grow in the right way. Many people make New Year’s resolutions as they turn the calendar. In 2022 can you develop meaningful traditions centered around worship, ministry or mission with your family or your church family or your community? Everything meaningful begins somewhere. May God give you a vision for what can happen when we plan with him in mind.
