Luke 6:20, 21 You’re blessed when you’ve lost it all. God’s kingdom is there for the finding. You’re blessed when you’re ravenously hungry. Then you’re ready for the Messianic meal. You’re blessed when the tears flow freely. Joy comes with the morning. (The Message Bible)
This has been a period of time for celebrating success. We are watching for medal winners at the Olympics. We viewed the biggest sporting event of the year Sunday evening and judged the commercials. And today we celebrate achievements in romance. Our world wants winners! But what percent of the population competes in the winter Olympics? How many kids that dream of playing in the Super Bowl actually get there? What number of romances really turn out to be a happily-ever-after? Congrats to those who make it in these categories, but what about the rest of us? If you feel left behind sometimes, remember that Jesus taught that the scale is just the opposite of all this. It may be those who lack the things associated with success who find, in their need, God providing, sustaining and comforting. Could it be that they are the real winners after all?
